RECORDINGS: WACO CREEK
This series was painted during a residency with Art Center of Waco in 2017 from August to December. In seven locations along Waco Creek from New Road to the Brazos River, I painted seven canvases onsite as the creek flows through downtown Waco, Texas– a small city that had its apex around 1880. At that time, Waco was a major railroad hub and a cotton power and its newspapers ruled Texas state politics along with the port of Galveston. These paintings were exhibited at the Mayborn Museum in Waco in partnership with the Art Center of Waco. The exhibit included custom digital maps based on information gathered from both city GIS and site mapping, as well as a large collection of scans made at the Texas Collection of Waco Creek history. These three sources of information explore fact and fiction of place. The exhibit title was Waco Creek: Static/Dynamic Urban Wilderness.
All works are oil on canvas.
